Options for Places to Cruise Locally
Places to the North
Chowders - Rotary Park - Conch Key Grille - Chowders Seafood Grill, 6485 US-1 S, Rockledge FL 32955, (321) 757-7200 - The water here is shallow close to shore so sailboats need to anchor out and dinghy in to either Rotary Park or Chowders Seafood Grill. The dock at Chowders is said to be about 2 feet deep. At Rotary Park at Suntree you will have a number of pavilions, bathrooms and grills. Approximately 12.5 miles north of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Cocoa Village - Cocoa Village is always a nice place to sail to. A convenient anchorage and dinghy dock on the south side of the of the causeway and Whitley Bay Marina, (321) 632-5445 on the north west side. After reaching Cocoa Village there is a number of restaurants to choose from as well as shopping. Approximately 21.5 miles north of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Port Canaveral - You have your choice of 3-4 restaurants in the port and a few marinas. If you are interested in going to the Atlantic this is one of the easiest inlets to transit. Secure Areas. Approximately 32 miles north of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Titusville -Titusville Municipal Marina, 321-383-5600 - Sandy Point Park - This is a city park next to the Titusville Marina. Approximately 41 miles north of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Places to the South
Marker 21 - This is a fill island produced when the intercoastal waterway was dredged. This make a nice day sail or over night. Deep water close to shore with a good sand bottom just right to clean your bottom. Approximately 7.5 miles south of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Sebastian Inlet State Park - Approximately 20 miles south of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Captain Hiram's Resort and Marina - Approximately 20 miles south of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Vero Beach - Not much in Vero. About the only place to stop is the Lobster Shanty restaurant and others just south of the SR 60 bridge. Just north of the bridge is the Vero Beach City Marina. Approximately 34 miles south of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
Ft Pierce - Fort Pierce City Marina is one of the nice places to stay. If you are there on a Saturday morning a farmers market is held beside the marina. I have stayed there twice now and they have large clean bathrooms and lots of restaurants. This is one of the main inlets to the Atlantic so watch the tides, the currents can be quite strong. Approximately 48 miles south of the Melbourne Yacht Club.
